my rear tire is cupped as well at 12k. plenty of tread left but cupping is terrible .just wanted to subscribe to the thread to see if anyone has any luck with warranty
Had both front and rear tires replaced for cupping issues, front twice. That rear tire can cause a violent wobble in high speed corners, get it changed.
I now have the American Elite(purchased) rear tire.
Wow!!! Time to find another dealer. I can't believe they would have the guts to charge you anything to verify that the motor company knows nothing about tire design. I did not receive the letter from Harley, but went in to have mine replaced. At first, my dealer tried to play the game, but I made it clear that I was not there to discuss anything period, and I expected the front tire to be replaced. They saw the light, but later would not replace the rear tire which was cupped and put out quite a roar in turns.
I am thinking a formal complaint to Harley with a request for the rufund of your $80 might be in order. Don't think I would hold my breath waiting for the requested refund, but still think the letter is in order followed by locating a real dealer...
Honda is looking better every day. Almost did a trade yesterday.
I had my front tire replaced under the warranty/ TSB for free (11k mile or so). My back tire has the same cupping issue now but I'm replacing it with an American Elite.
My OEM front tire was replaced last year at 8,500 miles at no cost to me. No question asked. The OEM rear tire has 11,500 miles now and it's time to replace it. 11,500 miles is much more than I've ever put on a rear tire so I'm not complaining.
I bought a Dunlop American Elite last year and I'll have it mounted before the end of the month.
I was fortunate with the D407 on my mid year make 09 UC. I now have 17k miles on it and now nearly ready for replacement. I can see a small amount of cupping but it has lasted a very long time. I do check the pressure religiously and always found it to be down a couple of psi, but never rode it like that, preferring the recommended 36psi.
There has been alot said about the rear in other threads and either HD or Dunlop wanted to address the issue. I complained more than once.
The guy who paid for the front ($80) you got screwed and the dealer got paid twice for the work....FIGHT IT! The dealership I used tried the same thing for $50 went right to corporate HD....didn't pay a dime.
