good morning everyone. I went out to ride the classic for the first time in about a week (the weather up here has been iffy and Ive worked a long week), and it will start but it runs really rough at idle and while shes warming up, it will misfire horribly. Once it is warmed, there is still a hesitation, but it goes away above 2500 rpms. I am going on vacation in Maine, and I am going to bring the classic up with me, because the dealership up there (North Country HD of Augusta, ME) has always done me right and I figure if its something I cant figure out they sure can. Any suggestions??
I replaced the plugs not that long ago, gapped them and regapped them since this problem has started, and I am thinking I am going to start with wires, fuel filter (its been a while), and go from there.
I have a 06 UC and it did the same. Dealer advised they're so lean from the factory that only pipes, SE air clearner and download will correct this. I now have 7800 miles and she seams a whole lot better and I haven't done anything yet ( only own it since the last of May). I'm going to replace the pipes with either the touring or SE model ( don't want it to loud) and see....
I was talking with one of the techs here in town and there is a HD download that's not quite right. They've been tuning on a guy's Street Glide for a while and couldn't get it right. Finally HD boned up and admitted the problem is with the download. I'm goin' in to pick up my scoot this morning. I'll ask him what download it was that was giving the coughing problem and let you know.
My 06 ultra used to cough and run really rough at idle. I had the SEII's pipes and AC with the stage I download installed at delivery. Those add ons do not make it idle better. I had to have the 25* injectors installed in and added a PCIII. Bike now runs smooth and much faster than stock. Had it dynotuned by a certified Dynojet tuner and added about 10 HP. I put the fuel pump program on mine but I turned it off. It used a lot of fuel and I am not street racing with mine. I can always turn it back on if I want. I can also change my maps on my PCIII if I want or take it off. The bike will then run like HD set it up.
The PCIII solved the heat issue I had. It was embarrasing to sit at a light and the bike would jump around because the back cylinder was turned off by the heat management system. I no longer have any heat issues and can sit comfortably at a light with burning my thighs.
That is how I finally solved my problems and now have a great running and behaving 06 EG Ultra.
well guys, i appreciate the input, but with an 89 i cant really play around with the fuel injectors, and theres not many different downloads to screw up. that was my fault for not telling you that to begin with. I have to go back to simple mechanics to fix my problem..
