This is new. My bike starts fine cold but won't do anything hot. Hit the button and nothing. Power is good. Fuel pump works fine but will do nothing when I hit the start unless it's cold and it starts fine. Any ideas?
On my '06 Ultra when it got hot at times when I hit the start button nothing happened. When I released the button I would hear a CLICK. I cleaned the starter solenoid contacts with emory cloth. Never missed a start since in 2 years. It would be worth a try. Takes about 15 minutes. Hope it works for you!
Damn thing starts like a champ when cold. I just got home and no troubles because its cool out but when i took off and stopped at the gas station it took some time to get it started. stopped to eat and i shut it down and it would not start. When we finished it started right up so it only does this when the engine is hot.
Looks like Mr.fireaxxe wins. Went to the dealer to see what it was and after 4hrs of waiting (appointment guys first and not really a problem since the girls that work there are fun to watch) one of the service dept guys tells me that the mechanic tapped on the starter with the butt of a hammer and now it works.
GREAT! I think to myself, The magic hammer to the starter trick. So i wait for them to bring it out. When it comes out i ask the other service guy what did the mechanic do and he tells me that he changed out the plug and wire that plugs into the back of the starter and i was good to go. GOOD DEAL, he found an old plug and wire with the same greasy thumb print that i had.
I ride about 3 miles to wifes office, shut it down and try to start it, Nothing. Tapped on the back of the starter with the wifes hairbrush and it fires right up so off i go to home depot for a new more professional starter key (hammer handle) for the weekend. I had enough dealer for one day.
Monday morning i go back to the dealer and tell them it's still doing it so they replaced the starter and BINGO 3hrs later, $50 lighter, and a sore neck from people watching at the dealer i am good to go.
I have only had good experiences at the dealer so far outside of the service turds there but i just figure thats life.
