The people that run this company are good folks ... I've dealt with them personally on several occasions ... keep your helmets, put a sticker on it.

Called for my return label- they were great on the phone. Mixed feelings, but probably will send back my black polo or sell it. If I stick with a shorty, I'll go to a Seer. A few carbon fullface options too...

You all know you can just buy those DOT stickers right? Stick them on any helmet you want.
True you can buy the DOT stickers anywhere over the internet, but these have the sticker on the inside...so unless you have one really up to snuff po-po they wont know....hopefully!

Interesting post and responses here. From the timing of it, I wouldnt be surprised if the wife and I were the last ones to order the DOT labled helmet from ACC. We got em in, tried em on and rode with them for one weekend and BOOM this recall hits.

I talked with the wife (who rides her own Night Train) and she loves it and wants to keep it. They look great, offer 'some' protection. In-fact, enough protection that one laboratory says its enough to meet DOT specs. The NHTSA comes in and uses another lab and they say it is NOT enough to meet specs. What does all this mean? I have no idea, but unless i buy an ANSI or SNELL conforming helmet we'll just be back to another crap shoot because NHTSA only tests a few DOT labled helmets a year!

We're keepin em.... and all the best to the guys at ACC, I hope they dont have to go out of business.

Well I just had a look at mine and it is an EXT-004. So I guess I don`t have to send it back.

Kinda wondering WTF also. If two different test labs came up with two sets of results in a truly unbias test, then the product would have to be tested at minimum by three more labs. All labs should also have the exact same equipment...yada yada yada. Not sure if I buy the whole thing, but I'm keeping mine so it doesnt matter to me. Like it enough to use it for short jaunts and to bike nights.. Use the Shark Evoline the rest of the time.

I'll preface this with the fact that I've been very happy with my ACC helmet and with the high level of service I've received from ACC. They're a top-notch company, and I think this whole deal sucks.

But mine will be going back, no question about it. DOT helmets are required in Maryland, and the ACC isn't one. It's no big stretch to imagine that the police are aware of the recall too. Last thing I need is a reason to be hassled over it, or worse, be told that I have to have my bike towed because I lack the proper equipment to ride.

On top of that, insurance companies are looking for any excuse not to pay out claims. I rode for decades without a motorcycle endorsement on my license, right up to the day that I discovered that my insurance wouldn't pay out if I was ever in an accident. Once again, it's no stretch to see an insurance company refusing to pay out if you were wearing an illegal helmet.

It sucks. I love the helmet, especially since I sent it back last year and had it reshaped and had the headhugger installed. But there's no way I'm going to open myself up to issues with the police or my insurance company.
