Default Starter trouble

I was riding the other day and my starter kicked in. I got to the side of the road and unplugged the solenoid and of course it stopped. I had changed bars once and then later changed my grips, I figured I had gotten the hot and the start wire together at the swith but thats not the case. It doesn't stay engaged all the time sometimes I can plug the wire to the solenoid and it'll start when you turn the ignition swith on and sometimes it doesn't but eventually it'll kick in again so I just leave it unplugged. Plug it in when it comes time to start it then remove it.I traded places with the brake relay and the starter relay and it didn't help it. By the way this is on an 06 road king classic. If any of you have any thoughts on this I'd sure appreciate it. I'd rather not take it to the dealer and leave it a couple of weeks for a small problem like this.
Thanks , Stafford

Default RE: Starter trouble

You may have pinched a wire at bar clamp during handlebar change.I would check for a short there first.
