I was dead set on getting a heritage softail but after visitin my local dealer today they had this beautiful road king 03 very clean with white wall tires. I figured since it was my birthday might as well do it right. The only thing I don't care so much for is the screamin eagle exhaust. It sounds ok but not quite what I'm lookin for. I'm new to the harley game so I'm just tryin to gather some opinions. OH yeah, where is the best place to look for some apes too? Thanks yall, ride safe
hey dude, congratulations on your new ride. i have a friend who has an 03 same as yours, it's really a great looking bike. he's got hooker slip ons, and wanted to buy a set of rinehart slip ons i had, but i'd already sold them. for a slip on exhaust, it's a great system, i think. the sound is just right, deep thumping sound, and not obnoxious or tinny at all. he's got the mini apes on his too, and are the 1-1/4". i've ridden his bike several times, and i really like it. it's a great choice you made. welcome to the forum.
Congrats! I rented a Road King a couple of years ago and was able to ride all day long on it. It was that bike that got me interested in a Touring framed bike. Took me a year and a half and then I got my new StreetGlide.
Welcome to the forum. Up untill recently i was riding a sportster with vance and hines shortshots on it. Great sound from them. I have now changed to a 1989 Electra Glide classic with slash cut screamin' eagle mufflers. Got a great grunt off them, but not too loud so that i can't hear the stereo. Good luck with your new ride. Gee.
Great bike, I too have an 03 bike (Ultra). This is a great year of bike to own, my ONLY suggestion is to keep a close check on the cam chain tensioners, don't just go by the miles on them. Buy a work manual (HD-not aftermarket) take the cover off, take a dental mirror and "Look" at both the inner and outer. I learned this the hard way, mine came apart with around 15K miles, went thru the oil pump. I was "lucky" enough to notice the drop in pressure and stopped before any major engine damage was done. I changed to gear drive but the update to the new type tensioners is probably just as good. Its a piece of mind thing for me to go to the gear drive. Good Luck, Be Safe.
