how can i tell if my road king has a security system?
I bought my 2004 road king classic a little over a year ago, the bike was a repo so the guy i bought it off of couldn't tell me anything about, it didn't come with a key fob, so i was just wondering if there was any way to tell if it did have a security system.
If you don't have a key fob follow the instructions for setting the personal pin in the service manual and if it works you have one, if not you don't. Or you could check for the security system module. Check the manual for location.
I'm not sure about '04 models but when you turn the ignition off, the marker lights will flash. Indicating the security system is armed. There also is a red blinking security indicator on in the face of the speedometer on the Road King. If you haven't seen this, you most likely do not have an H-D security system.

If it's like my '06,It wont blink until you activate the fob. However, you may be able to see the outline on the gauge without the light blinking.
The best way is to find the TSM/TSSM HD module and see if it says; "FCc, tested to comply with FCC standards". If it has the FCc mark, it has the security system.... I too bought a 2003 FLSTCI not knowing the prior owner. My bike started and would drive great. I drove for a time while I too studied the HD security and options. I bought a new module and fobs. Then when I went to install I found that the bike had the HD TSSM security module. I reset the system and everything works great now I reset the FOBS, personel code and all by myself. Now I have a TSSM security module I don't need.
If your interested in selling your extra tssm please let me know . Im Larry @. 530-554-3189 or friscolarry707@gmail.com , thanks for your time
Hi Larry and welcome to the Forum.

Larry, a suggestion. Use the search function and observe the very numerous problems with the security system. Most are caused by FAILURE to read the owner's manual and failing to replace fob batteries AND to set a pin. However, a perfectly healthy security system can be inoperative in an area of heavy radio frequency radiation. The serious thieves can take your bike even with a security system (a van and a lift) and the "joy riders" will be discouraged by a locked ignition and fork. As always, your money, your choice, just read about the added hassles for which you will be volunteering. I always get flamed a bit when saying this, so read those responses also.
