Default Welding the fairing bracket that cracked??

Has anyone tried to weld the the fairing brace on the bike that has broken...I will take all measure to insure protection to the surrounding areas. What I was wondering is if the weld will hold up? I am qualified for the weld. I am curious if others have tried and succeeded, without the metal breaking beyond the weld.

"My two cents" Do not weld it. Replace it.

Rather than welding, use a piece of strap w/ a 90 degree bend on the end (assuming that it broke at the bend, they usually do) and bolt it to the old piece and to the faring. It will last much longer than the original bracket. Can't believe that after all these years, and millions of electraglides that HD hasn't come up with a better piece of metal for those brackets. I guess you could call it engineered service maintenance.

If you guys are talking about the bracket that sits below the speakers on the left and rightside, Harley has a new revision for that bracket. That's the one that I was referring to in my before response. I just replaced mine. I don't have the packages anymore so I can't get the part numbers. Sorry.

Plan to weld mine if they ever brake, or just redesign it myself with heavier flat stock.

I just did the main brackets on mine last week.. The ones that run to the speakers were fine.. I welded them good inside and out at the top of the main brackets where the tabs broke then I welded the area where it almost meets the bracket again when the tab was folded over when the bracket was made.. Look close you cant miss it its at the bottom of the tab that bolts to the fairing.. They fold that tab over and there is a gap that as far as im concerned should have been welded from the factory as it adds a bunch of strength. Took me a couple hours to pull everything and weld and paint the brackets well maybe longer but it was raining anyway and I was in no hurry.. I would have bought the newer style but im still out of work and have more time than money and honestly if I can weld hot rod and race car **** i can fix a damn bracket ..

Wish I could remember the gals name at HD customer service that I talked to. I would call her back and ask....."If there wasn't a problem then why did the MoCo redesign the bracket?"

Part # for the RH bracket is 58939-96C Just bought one yesterday. Under $12 with tax but it should be FREE!!!

Welded both of mine near the top mounting point, only one was broke but I figured the other would follow. Like n8dc, I added a little extra weld that looked as though it should have been there to begin with. That was about 20,000 miles ago and I've been back in there several times for other wiring projects, no problems yet.
