Default Fork oil info !!

Could someone tell me how much oil goes in the forks of an 08 flhtc. Also what is the best oil to put back in. Are there any problems changing the oil other than the drain plugs. Thanks for you help.

Type E is what HD recommends. Some put Screaming Eagle. I use a combination of the two. Sorry I don't know how much for and 08, probably in the neighborhood of 10-11 ozs.

Do a search (07 fork oil change) iclick did a nice job with this thread. I think the 07 will be the same.
I did a search. You have to type it in with Caps, like....07 Fork Oil Change. It didn't come up using lower case. hope this helps!

If the Type E is the same stuff I drained out of mine the first time I'd recommend another brand (any other brand). I don't know what HD uses for fork oil but I've never smelled anything or seen anything that compares to that stuff. It was horrible and I replaced it with Bel Ray 10 wt. fork oil. What an improvement that was. Best that I could make out was that "E" is 10 wt. and "Heavy" is 15 wt.
My '06 calls for 10.8 oz. in each leg. The hardest part is making a tool for the ignition switch and that was pretty easy. There's a video on youtube detailing the switch removal and a simple tool. put HD ignition switch removal in the youtube search bar and you'll see how simple it is. I made mine from some 1/8" x 1/2" steel strap I had laying around. I just cut a short piece and made a "T" at the top so the tool wouldn't fall down the steering stem.

The stuff you drained out was not HD Type E. THe forks are made by Showa and they put some nasty smelling and looking stuff in them originally. Some people claim it is fish oil. It smells and looks worse than a hooker's yahoo late Saturday night.
