I like the sound of mine. Also quality was pretty good on this last set. I think they perform pretty good, yes there are better but the TH is pretty consitant and u know what your getting. I think if you just wipe them alittle more often they stay pretty shiney. Just my opinion, but I think it's agreed nothing sounds like one for the good or bad
i also run thunder header ive had rineharts v&h nothing performs like a thunder header. there quality was down a couple years ago but thats changed sinse then. i have them on my 05 road king, and 09 streetglide as far as the quality of the chrome mine looks fine but i dont let them get dirty. and u dont need heat sheilds if your bike is tunned right mine have been on for a year and they are as nice as the day i bought them. no yellowing nothing and i have a stage llll 103 bb. its your call of course. but u asked and we responded good luck with what ever u buy and ride safe.
Thanks for the comments. They're helping alot. From what I gather the people that have them pretty much are happy and the pipe's fit and finish are better now. I guess it boils down to what I decide will look the best since the TH and D&D seem pretty equal. Thanks again.
Thunder Headers are pretty dam loud when you get on them. But when cruising around they provide a great sound. The performance is great.
I have had mine on since 1995 and no problems with the quality as others complain about. Yes there is a bit of rust where the two pipes are welded to the plate before they go into the collector. You have to practically be laying on the ground to see it. Doesn't bother me a bit, of course I am not about the chrome and flash I am about riding. 125 HP and 124 LB Ft of torque on my 125 inch REVTECH mounted in my 95 FATBOY.
Buddy of mine has a set of TH's and they are discoloring badly. We are telling him we didn't know they made brass pipes and ask where we can get them. Maybe he needs some tuning but he had it dyno'd twice after he bought the SERT. I think they just can't withstand the heat. I dunno...
Thunderheaders are effin badass! There's no pipe that sounds as good, or performs as well.
The quality of the new pipes far surpass the quality of the older one. My '10 Thunderheader is nicer than the one I put on my '04 Road King Custom. Two buddies have the chrome version on their '09's, and I helped install them. Their fitment and chrome is much better than the older pipes.
On the RK, I switched from a V&H Pro Pipe. Felt like I picked up some bottom end, but I never dynoed it. The jetting on the carb was perfect for both pipes.
I have an older model Thunderheader on my wife's Fatboy. I liked everything about it except the quality. I went with a Fatcat on my orange bike and I'm very happy with it. I didn't know they had improved the thunderheader or I would've considered it for my RoadGlide. I got one small scratch in the chrome on the Thunderheader collector and the rest of the chrome started peeling.
The Thunderheader will set off a neighbor's car alarm when we ride by, the Fatcat won't, I've tried...
