Do the lowers restrict or improve airflow to the heads. We do alot of xcountry travel and would like to keep them if they dont hurt the motor in desert heat. I have a sert and a real good tune which seems to help engine heat quite a bit. some input from the experts would be cool........2009, FLHTCU bought new last fall...Thanks
I put lowers on my Glide 8 years ago and they've never been off ( except for painting stuff ) and the motor is perfectly fine. I think if it was a real problem, HD wouldn't be putting them on at the factory.
Airflow shouldn't ever be a problem on the highway especially if you've got a good tune that typically make the bikes run richer ( or so I'm told ). YMMV.

I'm no expert but I'll throw in my 2cents.
I cant see how the HD lowers could not restrict the air to some degree, but I dont believe enough to hurt the motor.
Now, air flow to your feet is another story.
This is why guys/gals get vented lowers, helps keep the head/oil temp down in hot weather and you can close them to keep heads/oil warmer in cooler weather.......

I always thought the vents were to let more air onto the riders legs not for the motor.
I asked the Dealer when I bought my UC. He said the lowers didn't restrict air to the engine at all. in fact it is designed to put more air on the engine. They are designed to keep wind and rain off the riders legs when closed. The adjustable air wings on the bat wing fairing is designed to put more air on the rider. Dealer told me this!!!
As long as you get vented lowers they are ment for all season riding, ive added them and havent noticed any heat difference. The non vented lowers HD recomends removing them in temps above 75* or so IIRC And in the HD accesory book it says vents are ment to be opened in hot weather to allow more air flow over the engine and to be closed in cold and rainy weather. my 2 cents...
I would think it would direct the air towards the engine as the air goes around the lowers. I have had mine on for 2 years since I got them and they havent come off since.
