I have a 2001 Ultra and am dealing with oil dripping out of the bottom of the air filter cover. It has a stage 1 air intake on it. I know this is a common problem, does anyone know a solution?
You are overfilled on Oil. Drain a little and it should stop. Not a big gear head here, but I think that is blow by or blow back or something like that.
It's not overfilled. How do you overfill a dry sump system? it is a crankcase brether problem and it is in the venting of the crank case. there are several different products out there that help to control the mist from the engine. should not be a big problem, just clean the AC once a week.
This is a typical issue with the Stage I air cleaner. The rear breather bolt is low enough that oil mist acculates in the air cleaner, dripping down onto the motor. You may also see drops over your right saddlebag and crashbar.
I installed the following on my 2001 FLHTCUI and have never had another problem or any more oil issues. Breather Kit
There is also a "poor man's" solution is to use a piece of 1/4 copper tubing and route it from the breather tube on the back of the air cleaner into the throttlebody. This solves the issue by routing the oil mist back into the engine.
There is a way to keep the oil from dripping onto the engine. Use an adhesive backed pad and stick it to the lower, inside of the air cleaner. The pads come in Mini and Maxi depending on the size of your air cleaner and the ammount of your bikes oil mist problem.
I can hear the laughter as I type, but this is for real and does work. The pads are highly absorbant and will keep the oil mess off the bike.
