This has been discussed to death but I gotta ask. Now that the Klock Werks 8.5 windshield has been out for a while do you who have purchased one glad you did or not? I have been looking at the 6.5 or the 8.5 and can't decide on which to get. I'm vertically challenged at 5'7" and would like the dark tint but was wondering what the difference in height is the 6.5 KW and the stock Street Glide shield? I believe the stock SG shield is 3.5 but the 6.5 KW's doesn't look 3" taller than the 6.5. Just fishing for some input.
I am 5'7" and run a dark smoke 6.5 KW I have only ridden solo with it and it seems to work great. I thought about a 8.5 KW but I am afraid it will be to tall. My wife is ridding with me tomorrow and I will see how it works for her. My other shield is a long ride classic flip 6" and it works for the both of us.
I'm 5' 11" and hate klockworks windshields. The wind blasts directly in my eyes.
I've tried many windshields but the best one I have found so far is a 8 1/2 inch fron Windvest. It actually measures about 7 3/4 when installed but the recurve is truly effective. Very smooth air.
I originally had the 6.5" KW shield, but upgraded to the 8.5" to fit my t-bags pouch. Nothing wrong w/either & I'm 5'11" - no buffeting & keeps the bugs off too...very happy w/the shield.
Stock Street Glide Shield-
I dont like it, not enough protection
Klock Werks 6.5"-
I liked it a lot until I couldnt use it anymore when I installed the Fairing mounted GPS Mount.
Klock Werks 8.5"-
Seemed like a bit more protection than the 6.5" but personally, I don't like it. This may be confusing but, though it does not block my vision when looking forward, I just don't like that I can't see closer in front of the bike. I feel that I am behind the windscreen and I don't like that.... I guess that rules out an Ultra Classic for me unless I change the screen.
Harley-Davidson Wind Splitter-
I like the lines of this windshield but at first I didn't care for it all. I was getting buffeting that I felt that I was not getting with the Klock Werks but the H-D screen works with my Fairing mounted GPS which was a necessity for me. Now after some time with it, I don't think the windscreen is the problem, as others have mentioned I thinks its the air coming up from under the fairing, specifically coming up your leg and smacking you in the face.
Iceman24 - Does your passenger get a lot of buffeting from the 8.5?
My 12-yr-old daughter's my main riding buddy so it's probably not a good judge. She's only 5' so I pretty much block most of the wind for her (if any's getting through). Wish my wife would ride, but she stopped b/c she doesn't like the thought of leaving our kids w/o parents...
