Mine are from Chillhowee and I have been running them year round for four years. At highway speed they act like a big air scoop pushing air over the motor. I like dry feet and the bugs and road debris not hitting me. They do get quite nasty.
You can order the 'summer' soft lowers with a cut out for hiway pegs or there is a templet included and instruction on how to do it yourself. Seems simple enough.
That whole 50 degree thing is a disclaimer for the protection of the MoCo.
I leave mine on up to about 70 degrees before taking them off. Probably put 100K miles on like this with no issues. At highway speeds there's plenty of air flowing over the motor.
Get the HD vinyl model - just can't beat 'em for the price. I've got one set that's lasted for 15 years so far. Wish they had 'em for a Heritage (I had to make those myself).
Get the fork mounted deflectors and the deflector that mounts under the trees. These help alot and both can be had for $100 from Harley. I use the soft lowers when it's cold or raining but these deflectors got rid of all of the buffeting issues I was having. http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
