Default Soft lowers- only for use under 50 degrees?

I was reading through some of the buffeting issues some are having with their road kings and I looked at the the soft lowers offered by the MOCO. The website mentions that these should not be used if the temperature is over 50 degrees. Does anyone know why this might be? Do these interfere with the cooling of the engine?

Just curious.

yep. less air

You might want to try some chrome wind deflectors.

Makes sense! Does anyone make a soft lower that is more of a mesh material that might cut down on the wind and still allow "some" air to help cool the engine?

I've used Desert Dawgs for years, www.leadermotorcycle.com in the rain 70+ degrees with no problems.Believe they funnel air over the cyl. at highway speeds.

Desert Dawgs from Leader Industries are designed for year-round use. They don't block air cooling to engine, like the Moco ones do...

I might take a look at the wind deflectors. I have seen some on other bikes and don't really care for the look, however, comfort over looks will prevail in most cases. I have to see how these will mount tot he forks.

I just looked at these, I do not see how they are different than any others and do not see how they cannot restrick air flow to the engine.

I've used soft lowers since last year and haven't noticed much of a difference. They are easy to remove and put back on and fold up niclely. I road all around the south during the summer and the bike performed great. They mainly keep the wind off your feet/shin area....don't worry there's plenty of air coming from other locations to keep the engine cool. Its not like they stop all air flowing. I've noticed the best benefit during wet weather..keeps the road wash from splashing all over..oh another benefit is BUGS...you won't believe how dirty they will get with bugs(all those bugs would be hitting your legs btw).

I noticed that the designs are not that all different. I may go with the HD brand as these fit my budget. Aside from the wet and bug deflection, do you feel that these might improve some of the buffeting that some are experiencing?
