I looked in the service manual it just says to lubricate and adjust clutch. It doesn't specifically say NOT to lubricate the cable. But then again, it didn’t specifically say TO lube the cable either. (maybe I missed something)
If it is a big no-no to lube with a certain lube, (or not needed at all), shouldn’t that be in big bold letters? And shouldn’t all the mechanics know this? Personally, I have not heard of a cable that never needs to be lubed. Some of the tech’s are saying that the graphite lube problem is only applicable to braided SS cables because the graphite “seeps” thru the braid and eats the teflon coating on the exterior of the cable.
More research may be warranted on this subject, but it seems as though this is limited to touring models alone.

Is anyone having this problem on a non-touring model bike?

Had an '04 Wide Glide and the manual specifically states to lube the clutch cable. I used some dri-slide stuff in a green bottle with a long metal "needle" for a nozzle - worked great for both the clutch cable and the throttle cables. I haven't lubed my '07 Ultra's cable yet, but based on comments here and the fact the pull is WAY lighter than the Wide Glide, I'll leave it be.

Thanks Tim
I wonder what's going on here w/so many having to have their clutch cables replaced on their NEW bikes? Something seems a miss...I'd say..It sounds like HD Service knows about it too...
What's up with that Hog Doc?

I dont think its the mechanics

I think its because they have these kids doing the small stuff like changeing the oil and the lubing bikes and cables there not trained well
