Wind noise
I know this has been asked a million times but, does anyone know how to eliminate the wind noise on a RoadGlide? I have an 09 that has a klockworks 8 inch shield, and the wind noise is a little aggravating. My 91 FXR with no windscreen is very quiet, compared to my Glide. Stats, I am 5'6" wear a full face helmet, and no this is not my first Harley, just kinda curious on how to get rid of the noise ( I didn't like the stock windshield, too much distortion ). I do not want lowers as this won't get rid of the noise up top around my helmet. I am jusrt looking for a shield that directs the air a little more quietly.
The answer to your guestion is that there is no answer. everyone has a different view as to what is annoying to them and there are so many variations of shields out there that if you find one you like you would be the lucky one. go to roadglide forums for more info than i thought was possible. im also looking.
I'm not saying it is but It could be the helmet.
I had to really tweak my Road Glide a lot before I got it right.
I also wear a full face helmet but several helmets behave and sound very different on different bikes (even different road glides). I tried an Aria, Nolan, and two different HJC ff helmets as well as several 1/2 and bennie's. I like the openess of the bennie but anything other then a short little ride its the full face for me.
For me I found the re-curved clearview shield 10" and my HJC IS 16 was the best combo.
Take into mind that things like seats, (yes) lowers, fork baffles, even mirrors as well as other factors all effect wind noise to some degree.
I loved the lowers on my road glide because they directed the air across the motor and not up and under the fairing. I also like the look. It gave the fairing a more finished / complete look, but thats just my opinion.

Before anyone can start to eliminate the wind noise that Road Glides inherantly generate, you have to decide what you can live with and what you are not willing to live with. As a Road Glide sits on the showroom floor, most are fitted with a cool looking, short windscreen. Looks great but acts bad. It probably sells a lot of bikes but when it comes to functionality it sucks. Why, because it is too low and too narrow. If that is what you are into, that is fine. If, on the other hand, you are willing to trade a little of the coolness of a short, sexy windscreen for the functionality of a taller, wider windshield, you will have to get one that is taller and preferably a bit wider. There are a boatload of companies which sell after market windshields for Road Glides. I have not tried all of them so I can not say which one is absolutely the best. I have tried a few of them and I have settled for a Clearview that is 15" tall. That is 2 1/2" over stock. It is also about 1" wider than stock. It has a recurve built into the top so that it throws the forward air about 4 inches above the top of your helmet (in my case). I am 5'10" tall. If you want to shield yourself from the elements, you have to go taller. Some people argue with "physics" but in the end physics rule and people comply. I ride with several riders who have gone to 17" windshields. One of them has a Clearview, the other does not. The Clearview owner is happy, the other is not as she complains that it vibrates and has wavy spots in it.
