Bought one early last winter to replace the mini tach on my 02 RK and it's still sitting on a shelf in my shop. Been busy doing other stuff and just haven't got to it yet. I'm interested in seeing what you get for replys. From what I've read it's pretty much a plug and play kinda thing.
P.S. Got my gator tail the other day and it's going back. Cuts are ragged and not uniform. It measures even/equal from side to side though.
only it was from HD. The wiring was strictly plug and play. Looks like yours might be a little different in that regard since the page states that wiring is separate.
I installed one on my 08 RK this spring and I love it. Got mine from zanotti's and was definitely plug and play. The only thing I don't like is that the odometer is displayed all the time even when the bike is off but I can live with that.
It's not quite a plug and play on the earlier roadkings like my '01. I'm calling about the extra harness tomorrow. There's 2 pins on the main connector that aren't used, so I'm assuming that one of those will be the feed for the tach. I tried a little jumper from the pink tach lead to those terminals but no luck. I was hoping someone had put one on a similar year bike as mine. I wanted to ask how they finished wiring it. The odometer turns off on this one when you kill the switch though. By the way, anyone that is interested in this one, I paid a LOT less than the listed price in the link above from DR V-Twin.
Bruno, I had a feeling you wouldn't be happy. That's why I mentioned that you would have to mold it for it to look worth a ****. I did a lot of work on mine. Yesterday I noticed another small crack in my molding too. I think I'll likely go with another fender when winter comes back around.....
Well the tach works quite nice now. Had to add a wire to one of the empty slots on the connector (pin # 6). They should really include instructions with it, but I guess that's too much trouble. It's nice to know the rpms now. I've always wondered what I was turning when I run the crap out of it. It was also nice to be able to set the idle on the bike, and know what it was. I knew I was idled a little low, but didn't realize just how low. I was way low. No wonder it sounded so good!
For those looking for a combo speedo/tach, and don't mind it not having the HD logo, this is a good one for the price. It's exactly the same as the HD one, just doesn't have the bar and shield on it, and costs less than half as much. All functions work the same, and it's well lit, and easy to see. It also has 2 tripometers on it, where the stock speedo only has 1.
cuda67bnl i have a 2001 road king classic and iam trying to figure out how to wire mine in,so i got a pink wire tied off on my cable that hooks to the speedo,am i suppose to hook the pink wire into # 6 plug ? this is really confusing to me since i cant find an install vidow on you tube.thanks chip

Reason: wanted to add more info
Taped back pink wire to harness should already have a pin on it, and it gets inserted in to pin 6 location on the plug in connector for the combo speedo/tach.
