Default R.P.M

Just picked up an 07 Ultra. I'm curious to know at what RPM do most people cruise. The owner's manual has "suggested" speeds for upshift which seem low.

Do most dealers install the headset and mic. at the time of delivery?

Since you have an 07 w/six speed. your best torq range is 2500 - 3000 rpm's. at 3000 @ 70mph 5th gear is when you would shift to 6th. Other gears you would be shifting around 2000 - 2500. Don't lug the engine.

Headsets; I can't tell you. I have a classic and I really don't want to listen to all that other crap.

For RPM's I generally keep it in the 2500 range, though I only have 5 gears, so I tend to hit arounf 3200rpm when doing 80 on the highway, no problems with this though. If i really need passing power, I'll make sure I'm at least at 3000rpm before passing...I can get some real nice power between 3000-5000rpm, and she screams like a beast! Was using this quite a bit when passing cagers on uphill 2 lane mountain roads.

Don't follow the suggested upshift speeds in the manual. I thought the same thing when I first read the manual and rode the bike since I have never owned a bike before. I spoke to the dealer and he also said don't bother with that, do it by RPMs. Now I basically do it by sound!

Seat of the pants, you will figure it out once you have ridden it awhile.

MOST DEALERS WILL MOUNT THE MIKE IF YOU ASK THEM. IT REALLY IS SIMPLE. DONT RIDE AT LESS THAN 2200 RPM.

Why do I have this feeling that many new riders will be shifting the 07's into sixth at 55mph and lugging the hell out of the engine ?

My thoughts exactly! I've got a stroker with a lot of torq, so it's possible. But why?
