06 RG. Can you adjust the level when the low fuel warning light comes on? Seems it used to come on when I had a bit over a gallon left. Lately it's been coming on at about 4.9 gallons! I normally would fuel when it comes on giving me about 35-40 miles to get to a fuel station. I don't have a gas guage, got tweets in there...removed it because it was pretty useless and normally go by miles per tankful and warning lamp. Got 167 miles to 4.9 gals today..not great but got a modified motor that isn't the most fuel efficient!
Btw; on my '99 TC"95" w/Mikuni I get about 37-39 mpg if I keep the rpms on the highway at or below 3100 rpm. If I go to 3300 the mileage takes a big dive to about what you're getting. I could really use an overdrive 6th gear. One day, when I hit the lottery, I'll get a Baker trans for it.
My gas light started coming on later and later and eventually when I was actually empty and eventually it just stopped working all together. I think the bulb just burnt out but I haven't gotten around to changing it.
I have adjusted the float in mine so the gage would read closer.Cant say if it changed when the light comes on.The light on mine will appear at about 160 miles.
I usaully fill up at around 180 miles and can get 4.3 gallons in the tank.
I would think the light would be timed to the float.

Yes, I would agree with that. So how do you adjust the float? Can it be done with tank on the bike?
My gauge never read accurate anyways..would read full till a gallon, then drop....which is why I removed it!

You have to remove the float assy. and bend the float arm.If your going to do this you should buy a new gasket ,screws and fuel filter(if its time for the filter).
Wow, you're nuts to rely on the fuel gauge on any HD. They have a long history of being notoriously inaccurate! Best advice is to know your in-town and highway mpg, reset the trip meter at each fill and know your route and fuel stops. While I do use my gauge -- and it's pretty close most of the time -- I use the trip meter as truth. I know I can safely get 150 miles in town and 195 on the highway out of a tank with about 25 miles of reserve.

That's why I said I go by the miles. 150 miles and she's thirsty again
In a perfect world, when the gas light comes on how much gas should be left in the tank on a 5 gallon tank (pre '08)? Have managed to go about 30 miles after the light came on but I was nervous
