This issue really gets me worked up. WTF difference does it make if the noise comes from a motorcycle or a truck??? Noise is noise. I have V&H straightshots on my Dyna and I cannot even hear the damn thing when I am sitting next to a truck at a traffic light. If my bike is so loud that it needs to be ticketed, then just maybe some of the trucks on the road also need to be ticketed. Set a decible standard and ALL vehicles should be required to meet it. Singling out motorcycles is pure BS! But that's just my opinion.
I use Bruel & Kjaer SPL dB meters professionally in my work to "ensure" noise compliance with our city's LRT trains....
Like the polygraph, the readings are subjective and open to interpretation.
thank you. what i said......

don't get me wrong, i'm not cop bashing here. but i know that there are some that use their position as a 'perk', and you're right, i'm sure some of the folks i work with drive like idiots as well..... there's good and bad in every bunch
Florida law says No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated or to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured. after 1979 at 50 feet it's 78db <35mph and 82db >35 mph. The only place it's very strictly enforced is Deerfield Beach.
City planners are such idiots! If bikes are allowed to park two or three to a car space they can free up much needed parking space in a city AND cars can still use the space if there are no bikes around.. If the morons implement bike parking, no cars can use the space if no bikes are around, like during cold/rainy/snowy days. That parking space goes unused and now cars are scrambling to find parking space.
Like I said, those planners are IDIOTS. They don't think past their noses.
well the plan is to use 4 bikes to a spot. each "slip" with a meter. as far as them loosing out on the chance to ticket a car? I personally couldn't care less. the MMA tried to convince them to use selected areas that a car won't fit into and convert it to bike parking. There are TONS of places like that in Boston. NOPE! they wouldn't go for it. The "city planners" ARE idiots in Boston.
To be honest all they had to do is "convince" the garages to allow motorcycle parking. Maybe even for a cheaper amount. like the streets, a garage has PLENTY of areas to tuck a bike into. We'd be just fine with that. The ONLY motorcycle friendly garage in Boston is the one owned by the mass general hospital. IT IS FREE! they have a little area you can park. No spots left? that's ok. sneek past the gate and park anywhere that a car can't fit and where you don't create a safety hazard for pedestrians and you are good to go.
Take a walk around "post office square" in boston on a nice week day. MAJOR motorcycle parking problems. And there are VERY few parking garages that will even let you enter. That goes the same for parking lots as well.
I figure the local population in popular bike routes are putting the pressure on LEOs.

They are. For the last two months that is all I have done on the weekends is patrol the areas the bikes run. The complaints are all on the crotch rocket crowd. Mostly cause they pass a car anywhere and their 100MPH+ speeds. Most of the wrecks are the older cruiser crowd. We have a great area to ride. Google S.H. 123 in Arkansas, as one example (videos on YouTube courtesy of sport bike riders.) It's better than the "dragon" because there is very little traffic.

Be careful what you wish for. Ever notice the difference between a new car and a new Harley? Both legal, but the HD is much louder. If they make them all the same, I don't think the cars will get louder.
i'm not talking about when they are in the process of apprehending a suspect or responding to a call. i'm talking about when they are just 'cruising'
Just cruising is working!...............and sometimes we have a lot of ground to cover in a day.....or dinner's ready and the wife doesn't want you to be late AGAIN......you've had to #1 or #2 for the last hour and you gotta get to a decent rest room.....it's time to get off and you are 30 miles from home......somebody hollered "let's go get a cup".......it's about time for "the light" to be on (not true for me, but it fits the stereotype)
Hey if you want to work weekends and holidays, change shifts every month, deal with all of life's losers and mentally unstable folks on a regular basis, put your life on the line every time you put on the uniform and leave the house, and all for low pay and increasingly shrinking benefits, you too can drive just about however you want to and get away with it!!!
I live in CT and have heard the clowns with straight pipes on there bikes .The only thing the straight pipes do is make noise and **** people off. Most police officers I have talked to about pipes on bikes said'if you ride sensesable they will leave you alone.I was out yesterday and got behing a guy and his girl with straight pipes on his bike that were so loud i couldnt here my bike running.I didnt follow them to far. some of these people need to learn RESPECT FOR OTHERS.
