I fought this in my head for MONTHS....purchasing a PC V from Fuel Moto. I spent HOURS reading different post here....asking different ones questions about it.....worried about the warranty being void, ect. In the end, it's what I wanted to do....so I just did it!. No regrets. The nice thing about PC V is it's 'plug and play'....if ya need warranty work...just disconnect it, and hook the O2 sensors back up. How else will they know?

Im thinking real hard about adding the Autotune in the near future.

I went through the same thought process. Decided I'm gonna simply keep the stock components on hand just in case I need to put them back.

Keeping the stock parts for just in case is a good idea. At the end, it is not a Harley if it is a stock (almost true),
Even so, according to HD owner manual (at least mine), the first initial tune up has to be done by the dealer to keep the warranty valid.
I guess I can live with that. I guess this is the last thing that HD has to change to beat the metric, at least in terms of customer cares.

If it says that an HD dealer has to do the service, then they have to provide the service free of charge. The manual may recommend that they do the service, but can't require it be done by them unless provided free.

Don't let that "void the warranty" BS scare you. As has already been stated, by law, they would have to prove that what ever you bolted on, caused the failure. Then, worst case, you take it up with the manufacturer of what ever you bolted on. They should warranty their product.

The vast majority of dealerships want the warranty work. The dealer gets paid by HD to do the work and we all know how much the dealership wants money. They are not going to turn down the opportunity to make money. Just because you put on an aftermarket air cleaner or pipes, doesn't mean they are going turn you away for a chance to make money off of an obvious unrelated failure.

The only reason the dealers try to scare you with "void the warranty" crap, is so you will buy all the upgrades, and we all know that you will, from them. Again, so they can make the money. It's all a marketing scare tactic so the dealership gets every penny you spend on the bike. More than likely, if you asked the dealer, they would sell you the exact same products and install them for you.....for a premium price. That's the funny part, they can install aftermarket parts and some how that doeasn't affect your warranty but if you do it??? It's all BS by the dealer to get your money.

Having said all that, if your dealer insists that your entire warranty will be voided, he's lying, and trying to make you buy it from him. Find another dealer.

If your manual states that the first initial tune has to be done by HD to keep the warranty then it will be free of cost.

I had similar discussions with a couple of dealers before buying my PC3 from FuelMoto. My local dealer said they "will not even touch a bike with a PowerCommander installed because they have seen that device screw up all the wiring on the bike". Yes, that is a quote directly from the Service Department. The other dealer that I talked to actually recommended the PC3 and said that if there were issues that the PC3 was not covered by warranty, but since it is an inline device that just disconnecting it and reconnecting the O2 sensors would get past that hurdle.

I did discuss with both dealers the fact that I was going to do most of my own work and that I seriously doubted that HD oil would make it in the bike and both were fine with that. They said that as long as I was following the instructions and doing things properly that they would not be able to tell whether i installed the oil cooler (or other things) or some other dealer did it, so no big deal. BUT, if the oil cooler I installed is what was leaking and caused the engine to seize up, that would not be covered under warranty. I believe that would still be worth a dispute as well.

The nice thing was that the dealer that recommended the PC3, he also told me to give them a call if I was doing some work and ran into a problem, they would be happy to try and give some advice over the phone.

While this is unrelated to the OP's question. I bet you can figure out which dealer has a lot of competition around them and the one that doesn't have another HD dealer within a 100 mile radius. :-)
