Arrow Solo seat install issue

You ask; how freakin hard can it be to install a solo seat? Well, I asked the same question of myself but here I am still thinking what to do.
Anyway, got a Mustang solo seat and fender bib for my RK Custom but the 2 bolts coming up thru the fender are too short and the seat nuts can't get a grip on them. Tried this with and without the bib, neither way works. My 1st thought was to get longer bolts but that entails removing the tire, etc, etc and I just had a new tire put on. Dang.

Any idea's on this?

If you remove the lower shock bolts it should give you plenty of room to access the bolts wihout removing the rear wheel.

Interesting. My wife bought a Mustang solo seat for her 2008 Ultra, and I had no problem attaching it via the two screws coming up through the rear fender. I recently added the adjustable back rest to my 2008 RG, again attached by the two screws coming through the reat fender. Are you sure that that someone did not shorten these screws before you got the bike?

Maybe the plate that the those bolts attached to dropped down into the fender cavity? Just reach up under the fender and push the plate back up.

A simple trick I use to prevent that from happening in the future is to lossen those nuts a bunch so the plate drops but does't fall all the way. Then a put some a tiny dab of silicone caulk down past the bolts onto the plate to as glue to hold it up in place. Just tighten the nuts and let it sit overnight. Since it's silicone it comes off easy if you ever need to remove for whatever reason.

Good luck, more oftan than not things like this have simple solutions. Hope that ends up being the case for you to.

The plate holding the 1/4 inch bolts did not drop on me for either the Mustang seat (2007) or the backrest installation (2008), although I suppose it could. Also, I have had the solo seat off of the 2007 several times since the initial installation with no plate drops. I guess if it did, I would use PhatTerry's solution.

It only drops if those plastic "keeper" washers are not used. They are often removed on solo seat installs. Sorry if I wasn't more clear.

Have you tried just putting the nuts on and tightening it down? You might pulll up the plate that way.

Also, I left the plastic washers on my bike. I figure it's better than a metal to metal installation of the seat. THey were a little exposed when I ran a Mustang seat (no bib), but they're covered by the seat skirt on the Corbin I've got on it now.

Good info PhatTerry. I left the plastic keeper washer in place for both installations. That probably explains why the bolts did not drop on me. I might add that when I installed the Mustang solo seat on my wife's 2007 Ultra, the plastic washers were not visible since I had moved the Tour-Pak up over the area where the passenger would normally sit.

Was away on the Rolling Thunder Run to the Wall yesterday so I wasn't able to respond.

I will give your idea's a try. I didn't think the plate could drop so I didn't try that. I am the only owner so no one could have shortened them although I had a custom paint set put on and the dealer might have fudged something which is altogether possible knowing how poorly this dealer runs their shop.
