Just wanted to say I am getting a 1991 FLHS with a S & S 1340 and super e carb with 18000 miles..... Carb needs to be dialed in, but thats not a big thing. Clean bike.... Anything I should keep an eye on on this road hawg??
Oh yea.... Already thinking of what I want to do to it.... Can't wait. 2 up on a street bob isnt all bad..... I am sure it would be better if I changed out the stock seat. I just don't like how it handles loaded down with about 40 lbs strapped to the back of the sissy bar and the wifey on the back.... With the stock seat I should say... She wiggles, and it has the pillion on it. So she wiggles and so does the bike... Not fun at 70mph!
Yes it is very clean for 19 yrs old. Its unbelievable. I need to charge up the nikon slr to get some great pics of it. I will soon. It is as clean in the pics as it is in person.
Classic bike - only 18k miles?! Original owner should be ashamed! Base gaskets of course - but what can you do. That era Evo was pretty solid. Same carb I had on my '92. Only thing I'd look into right away would be upgrading the brakes if they're still stock. I had no idea how bad the '92 brakes were until I bought my '01. And now of course they're even better.
Interesting story on this one.... Old man bought the bike (new maybe?). Did lots of work to it. It has an s&s case on it and cams just not sure what. He passed away guessing in early 2000s. His kid got it and traded it in on a yamaha sport bike (dumb a** kids lol) and the guy I got it from picked it up in 2004 from the yamaha dealer.
His plan was to ride it (iron butt member) to alaska. Well he got a sweet deal on a bmw touring new and rode it to alaska. He also has a yamaha vmax, and a yamaha 650 (I think it was a 4 cyl engine). So his thing was 4 bikes one butt. one has to go. So thats how I got it.
It has metzler 880s (brand new with nubs still on them) new brakes, supposedly new wheel bearings.
I thought of upgrading to a 4 piston caliper from one of the newer bikes. Going to check out Peotone next month for some. Bike runs like a raped ape.
I am going with some progressive air shocks (418) as soon as I have some cash. thing rides hard even with like 10 psi in the shocks and forks. I think they are just worn because of age and possibly the original owner may have been a big dude. My little 190 lb butt bounces all over the place on bumps. It rides great 2 up. Thats why I think the orig owner was a big guy.
We cleaned out the bank acct to get this one..... Going to take a bit to get some dough back in and on track. What year(s) with the 4 piston brakes will bolt on to this machine? They came out with the 4 piston in 2000 if I remember right? (Thanks Dave)
