I am looking to throw about a grand to 1.5K into my Ultra. I need more performance. Where should I spend my money? I get my labor for free so what will give me more HP or torque or both? Should I do a Cam Kit, can I get a big bore kit for that price. I have a Big Sucker with VH pipes already.
If you are getting your labor for free.... You could get a good T-Man kit with headwork and cams for about 2k. IMO, if you are going to tear in to the motor, go all the way for not much more. You can get a HD big bore kit for under your price range, but I don't think any of them include headwork. You could likely send your heads out, but then you kind of have a science project thing going on.
My advice would be save your pennies a little longer and get a proven kit from a quality builder. T-Man, Headquarters, Hillside, etc. I have the 105" kit from Automotive Machine and am really pleased with it. I'm in it about $1400 in it in parts (not including gaskets, pushrods, lifters).
