Default Single rotor on Touring

For all of you running a single disc brake setup on touring bikes, how is braking as compared to the original dual setup? How did you handle getting rid of the extra brake line? I have a 2008 Street Glide and am considering doing away with the right side rotor and caliper. Thanks for all help.

I shaved the right caliper off, and am running a Jaybrake 6 piston caliper on the left side. I swapped my master cylinder for one from a heritage softail (single caliper). The braking is as good or better than the stock setup was.

Thanks steveh326. How important do you think the new caliper was?

That is difficult to believe! I have two 6-pot callipers with 13 " discs, which I find fine! I have no wish to make do with just one disc, when our all-up weight is around half a ton. One brake might be OK for a bar crawler though.

you would think there would be a big difference. Ib be curious to see it on paper, the real test however would be a test course demonstration. I cant comment but have always been curious about this.

IMO I think a 6 piston caliper is crucial to the final results. M/C from a single caliper bike is also best for lever feel.

sorry, don't give a flying f&*k whether your beleive me or not... I'll ride my bike you ride yours.

edit: I'm headed to Maine next week on it, planning on riding the White Mountains, gonna do Mt. Washington, maybe hit Laconia for a day on the way thru, but I'm sure there's a bar there I can crawl too on it as well.
