Was riding nice and easy headed to the bank when the car infront of me swerved to the left suddenly and there she was, a pressure treated 4x4 4feet long laying there right in front of me, so i swerved right and missed it with the front tire and clipped it with the rear still jolted the bike enough to knock a filling loose. I think i dodged a bullet doesn't seem like i bent a rim or anything but not sure about my alignment gotta check that later, be careful out there this summer.
just be glad it wasn't air born, I was coming across indiana and a truck in front of me sent a peice of plywood air born all I could do was slow down as fast as I could. It landed in front of me by maybe a foot or two. I thought I was cooked.
Ummm.... from what I remember in Riders Edge, aren't you supposed to slow down try to cross it as straight as you can and rise up on the pegs instead of swerving ?
Not being critical just trying to remember what the deal with seeing one of those in the road was...it's been a couple of years since I took the Riders Edge class.
The advanced motor training teaches high speed counter steering to avoid things in the roadway. Hitting a 4x4 at highway speed could be problematic; however, if you can not avoid it you should try to hit it head on slowing down as much as possible before hitting it. Then use the techniques taught to you in the new rider MSF course to safely ride over it. Riding over anything in the roadway should be your last resort.
Glad to hear everything worked out ok. Driving over an obstacle only makes sense when avoiding it is impossible. I can not think of any reason to ride over a fence post when it could be avoided.
