Which bearing on the main shaft? Theres the mian drive gear bearing, 2 needle bearings inside the main drive gear that the main shaft rides in and then the right side door bearing.
Mainshaft bearing (aka 5th-gear bearing) #8967, the double ball bearing with the plastic walls. The plastic cracked and the bearing lost its integrity over time. Surprisingly it didn't disintegrate and only one ball escaped in 16k miles.
So are we talking about the primary or tranny mainshaft bearings? I said "tranny" in the first sentence of my post above but meant to say "primary" and changed it. So if HD used two different trannies in '07, why would that impact the primary bearing, if that's the one we're talking about?
Well I'm not exactly clear on that... My understanding is the shaft that goes from the transmission to the primary. They called it the inner primary bearing.

Maybe this bearing??
One of my transmission output shaft bearings (the one under the clutch basket that's pressed into the inner primary housing - disassembly of the transmission itself not required for repair) failed at 29K miles. Yep - failed despite IDS install at less than 10K miles.
My understanding is that this bearing was revised, the transmission shaft diameter under this bearing was increased, and 5th gear was made helical as "official" '08 model year changes but also installed in some late '07 bikes.
Several other '07 owners have had the same failure at around 30K miles and there's another thread https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...g-primary.html on this issue. Dawg and/or iclick and/or siflarson would maybe know.

Do you suppose Dave knows what a load mouth you are on this sight and how much business you my could be potentially running off for his dealership, like mine.
I had no clanking whining issues with my very early 07 but still put the IDS in.
Have had no issues and glad I did it. There's a reason 08-10s have them.
