When you say "lent" I assume a buddy gave you his to use. I think that once a SERT is married to a specific bike, it stays with that bike. You may be able to use it on another bike, but it would have to be unmarried from the previous bike to work. In other words it can only be used on one bike at a time. Not 100% sure but I would look into it before taking it to dealer

Figured that, so I asked. Can he use it on his bike himself or is it a dealer thing? As far as actually the download I mean?
He "can" use it on his bike, but from what I understand its not the most user friendly thing out there. He will need the cables to hook it up to his bike and computer.

Yes in fact I looked into it after your first post and his bike is the ONLY bike that can use that tuner. You can not umarry it or use it on another bike. You have to get the software and cable and of, course computer. I think the software and cables are about $30

Have the software CD, need cables. Is there a reason for him to do the download again. (done when he got the bike) What will our options be when we plug this thing in?
Thanks for the legwork, really appreciate it

Shouldn't really be any reason to tune if nothing has been changed to the motor. Unless you suspect it's not running right. I am in the same boat as you as far as wanting to to play with my SERT. However I am still doing my homework on the subject.
OK, while on this subject. My dealer kept my race-tuner 'key' and has now lost it. Anyone know if, (I convince him its his fault and I get an new tuner-key) will the new tuner work on an already tuned engine? I am figuring YES as the tuner key is modified permanently and hopefully NOT the eeprom or whatever gets the map information.

Reason: Add pic
It also depends on which Tuner you have. If you/your friend has the SEPST with Smart Tune, then you can 'improve' the map by utilizing that feature - at least in theory anyway. As others have mentioned, the cables and SE Tuner software can be borrowed, the Tuner cannot.
