Typical cigarette lighter will pull 10Amps to heat the coil to glowing red.. that said, you can plug any accessory device into the cigarette lighter socket that does not exceed 10 Amps. Most all phone chargers, GPS power adaptors, ect fit this catagory... Do not plug one of those Power Inverters in to your bike, most anything else is ok...

If it has the power to heat up a lighter, which is really a direct ground,it should power anything else.

I power my Garmin 765 GPS unit from the lighter socket-- no problems. One thing to check though is to make sure whatever lead you plug into it doesn't touch the tank when you turn the bars to full left lock.
My 09 UC has about 1/4" clearance between the charging plug and the tank on left lock.

I figure seeing as we're on the subject of gps and I have a garmin nivu 255w you's mind if I ask what kind of mount you's are using? I figure the evo tours shake like heck and the right mount is needed.

the lighter being used as a lighter uses a whole lot more amps than just about anything you could plug in to that socket, so you'll be just fine. if you don't believe me, look at the heating coil/element in the lighter after it's been pushed in for about 7 or 8 seconds. that's a huge draw, far more than a gps.
