No problems here using my cig lighter port to power a Garmin GPS, or recharge a cell phone... just make sure your power adapter you are using does not hit the tank when in a full-locked turn to the left.

a gps or other plug will compress the spring clip that retains the lighter, if you use any divice in the lighter socket, you will need to reset the spring clip or you will loose your lighter, its easy to do, but you MUST either disconnect the battery or use an insulated tool to reach in and pry the spring clip up so as to put the tension back on the lighter.
