Thanks for the input......the instructions tell you to hold the RESUME switch until the cruise icon goes OFF.....problem is it never goes OFF...not sure if a connection problem somewhere in harness connectors. But rm4040 and I are having the same problem,

For rm4040: the stepper motor does not come on, so similar situation here.....

Wanderer,

Hard to believe we both have same problem, so I quess I will make continuity checks in sytem until we can get resolution from someone.
What should we get???
Some one confirm the following
When a cruise control is working what happens when you initialize? Is everything the same as the manual.
1 When I turn on/off switch on I get switch light and red tach light. Is this what one that is working does?
2 I hold resume switch forward and start engine both red lights stay on. There is no green light so I guess that means that the unit is not enabled and I have a open in a connection or the module is bad.

Okay......sounds like you got a handle on what needs to be address.....am going thru the manual now and looking at the wiring diagrams to verify that we have done everything that the instructions told us to do....

Later I am going to take the fairings off and check to make sure that the pin connectors are in the right place on the connector. Another thing I'm gonna look at is the right handgrip controls.....make sure there is nothing pinched.

Other than that.....I'm at a loss.....

Ok, just checked it out, here's what I found:

- Hold Resume, turn ignition on, before starting with the resume button pressed, light on tac is RED
- IMMEDIATELY after starting the engine while holding resume, light turns green
- After 3 seconds, the light turns red again
- After it turns red, I pressed and held resume, light turns green, stepper kicks in, RPM bumps up, drops right back down, light goes back to red.

The light never went out, it was always red or green. It was red before starting the engine, green IMMEDIATELY after starting engine for 3 seconds, then back to red.

[IMG][/IMG] Have EGC (FLHTC)....received kit from Benjy's, began the removal and installation...everything seemed to go together well, then did the "Cable Lash Init" and nothing seemed to perform as advertised in manual. First, drove around and got eng up to normal temp. Second, followed steps in manual...ie hold RESUME switch on, ON/OFF switch to ON, turned ignition key ON, started eng.
Third, cruise engagement light on tach came on, BUT NEVER went OFF after 3 seconds...Increased rpm's, let eng idle down, cruise engagement light still on. Turned OFF eng.......reviewed my steps during installation......needed a beer by this point, actually needed 3 or 4.....

So anyone have an idea why the cruise engagement light stays on, etc........tried the troubleshooting code deal...but the engagement light never came on......go figure...HELP!!!!!
After trying mine again, my light never went off either, but the stepper kicked in and adjusted the slack. Did you try riding it and setting the cruise afterwards to see if it held your desired speed? Sounds like you might be ok.

Wanderer

I would like to know how you can run a test on the module to determine if the unit is operational. I check the majority of the wiring circuits for continuity and haven't found anything wrong. Who would know how to trouble shoot the module???? If the module is defective we would be wasting allot of time checking everything else.

OK, one more input (keep in mind, I am a Firefigher - not mech) when riding and I decide I want cruise. I reach up and flip cruise switch - red light comes on, telling me the power is to the cruise but I have not yet set it... find the speed I want to cruise at,,, with right thumb, I press and hold the resume witch for a the two/ three seconds then let go... red light turns green and speed is held... if I touch either brake or pull clutch, cruise shuts down and red light comes on again = waiting for me to set desired speed again....

Doesn't your cruise have a SET switch? I pull the switch to set it vs. using resume. Resume on mine only works once I've already set a speed with the cruise and bike on with set. Ie Cruising along at 45 use SET to set the speed, stop for light, cruise kicks off. Leave light, get up to 4th, press resume at 40, and the bike picks up speed until it's at 45.
