JMXP,

Thanks for input but my light never turns green.

Thanks
That's f'd up then. While holding resume, mine turns green the second I start the engine, stays green for 3 secs, then goes back to red.

Not trying to be condescending or anything, but just to make sure, you're pushing the switch forward, not pulling it back right? And you're holding it all the way forward while you start the engine?

JMXP,

Yes, I have a set swich but I am trying to initialize the system to have the stepper motor take the slack out of the cable. You are told in the instructions to use the procedure listed in earlier responses on new installations to calibrate the cable. The way they say it should work is to start the bike and the green enable light comes on for 3 seconds when the resume switch is in the forward position. This then activates the stepper motor to take the slack out of the module cable for accurate operation. My problem is that the unit is never enabled as indicated by not having the green light come on showing that it has been enabled

rm4040: I think you were reading my reply to harley0711 who was describing operation of his cruise. I understand you're trying to init the system.

When you turn the cruise switch on, hold resume and turn ignition on, you see the red light right?

Then you should turn on the motor and it should go green for 3 seconds (all the while holding resume)

JMXP,

Your last post is the way I understand the operation. It could be that the Module is defective. I wish someone could let me and the Wanderer know how to troubleshoot the unit to determine if it is defective.

Sorry, don't have that info. Barring somebody coming up with that, if I were in your shoes, I'd double check all the connections in the headlight housing. The switches connect there. If those connections aren't solid, you would most defintely experience problems. Also, you made sure to connect grey to grey and white to white right?

Again, not trying to be condescending, just throwing ideas out there barring instructions for performing a test on the module.

jmxp....

Did what you indicated...but still no joy!!!! Navy talk.....

Icon stays red never changes, even after starting eng. Been running thru the wiring diagrams and the wiring is correct as per the manual. There's got to be something else.....been looking at diagrams and seeing what interacts with everything. Brakes, throttle roll-back, cruise pwr switch, stop light relay, etc.....

Fortunately the manual shows color coded wires.....Still troubleshooting from the installation side......ie connectors, ground to module, which goes to right hand ground stud...might also be a possiblity.....need the ground for everything to work. Those that have speaker switch on front panel, automatically connect to speaker ground as per instructions. Frustating.....but will get it resovled. Or more beers are in order......

The instructions for rm4040 and I...FLHTC models....shows

Orange/Violet pin terminal go to chamber 4 of fairing connector 105
Red/Green pin terminal go to chamber 5 of fairing connector 105
Black/Green pin terminal go to chamber 12 of fairing connector 105
The 4th wire with no pin terminal which balck/green is for bikes with speaker switch installed. (which we don't have)

I'm getting to think like rm4040....bad cruise module??????

Thanks for input.

However it does not seem that the sytem enables to the point of getting a RPM change that would indicate the cable slack has been taken up.
When I perform the procedure as outlined I turn the cruise on/off on and get the on switch light and the red cruise on light on the tach. The red light stays on, but the instructions state a green enable light comes on stays on for 3 seconds then goes off. Nothing happens after the switch light and red cruise light comes on as I continue to follow the procedure.
Re-reading your post. You turned the switch on, pressed/held resume, turned ignition on, you turned the bike on after that? That's when it turns green for 3 secs then back to red.

Mine didn't require any sort of ground wire. I had 5 connections to make, all plugs.

4 in the headlight housing. 2 grey, 2 white.
1 on the side of the box.

I didn't have to make any other connections.

If your red light comes on, it's probably not a ground issue.

Did you put a washer in the brake lever when you started the install? Remove it before initializing?

Sucks that you guys are going through this....

That probably exlains why mine was so easy. Didn't have to fiddle with any of that, 5 plugs and done was all it took.

I wonder since your wiring is different if the init process is different? Wish I could help more, but it sounds like you're gonna need help from someone who's done this on FLHTC models. Obviously FLHRSI is different.
