It's for the passenger to hold onto and to make it a PITA to take your seat off. I tossed mine as soon as I got the scoot home.

For the passenger to use as a handhold.

In some states, if there is no backrest for the passenger then it is illegal to not have a passenger grab strap on the seat. Mine came off as soon as I got home.

Watch your fender paint that seat jacked mine. There is a bumper kit out that is supposed to help 54395-10 only a couple bucks as per Dawg

I sometimes use the grab strap as a place to hold my head rag, gloves or similar items when I park. As something for the passenger to hold on to it is worthless.

Yanked mine right off, kept the chrome attachments for a place to hook straps.

Why is it that LEO's are always the first to push the envelope?

Yep, I always take it off. Usually the first time I have to remove the seat.
