Default Installed the rider back rest

On the advice of a bunch of you, I went with the removable rider back rest from HD. It installed very easily, although the directions were a bit confusing, since they cover a bunch of different models, each with install differences.

First impressions:

1. Not sure I need the extended reach bars any longer. Keeps me seated upright and it's certainly a comfortable position. Not cramped to the front at all.

2. I went with the second mounting hole from the front (RKC) to give my wife some extra room. It seems fine where it is, and I'm almost 6 feet tall.

3. Right now, I wish it tipped back just a bit more. The adjusting screw pushes it forward, so I guess straight up and down is as far back as it goes. However, I think with some use, it will be fine.

4. After about 10 miles around the neighborhood, it seems like a great addition - especially for the longer trips. The little pouch in it should be handy for my wife to put her sundries, too.

See it here.

JB

Take a look at the adjusting screw and see if it can be shortened to give you the adjustment backwards a bit more.

Thanks for the tip!

I went out on an 80 mile ride with my daughter. She was very comfortable back there and she's much bigger than my wife. I must admit - I was pretty comfortable, too. I guess this means I'm officially an old fart.

Hey JB,

You say that like it's a bad thing.

From one old fart to another.

Howdy JB looks like your back rest would make your ride more comfy. You said that you were an old fart, I ride a Springer and I'm 54, how old are you?

p.s. did you by any chance get to see my new Springer? I like the looks of both of ours. How do you like it by now?

leonsrocketcar - I bought the HD model from Benjy's. Got 20% off, shipped to my door. They will be getting a lot of business from me in the future.

SPRINGER - I am liking the back rest. I'll be doing a group ride on Sunday (when the weather finally breaks) and I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel when the ride is over. I am 46. I hurt my lower back weight lifting a couple of years back and since then I have to show my lower spine some occasional respect or it reminds me of my mortality! I have seen your springer and it's gorgeous!

Howdy JB, I was told once that lying on the floor and doing leg lifts will strengthen the stomach muscles. Stronger stomach muscles will also help lower back problems. I was wondering if you have tried this? I've done it once in a while and it seems to help me. I was told this by a chiropractor.
