I bought Wildone Chubby 575's (10inch) from a member on the forum and after getting a quote from my local indy shop for a full install (up to $700!!!!) I think I might do it myself. I know I will need a new one piece clamp, a 4+ throttle cable, and possibly a new clutch cable since it probably due anyway. Since I have an 06 I do not have TBW concerns, but I would like to run all the other wires in the bars. Will I need to extend my wires or will they be long enough to complete the job? I also have heated grips and cruise so it might be a tough job for my first bar swap. Any helpful hints from the experienced do it your-selfers?
Did a similar install on a buddies 06 Ultra. By rerouting the bundles a bit in the fairing we were able to connect without any wire extensions. Make sure you get throttle cables for one with cruise. We had to change clutch cable and front brake hoses with his set also. He used +6 cables so his bars may have been higher than yours.
I posted a thread a little while ago about my current bar swap, putting in a 575 right now. Posted some pics of it and a few things to do or look for in the process.
I think I am only going to have to put on a new clutch cable. I've presently got all the wires in the bars but have to fix a molex pin I broke somewhere in the process.
I used the "search" to read a number of the threads guys have done on this and those guys have made it a much easier chore to do!
Good luck!
No wire extensions needed.
To do it right get a +4 clutch, +2 (or 4) throttle, and +2 (or 4) Brake (flexible)
Take the controls off the bike.
Take the handlebars and controls to your kitchen table.
Use a sewing needle to remove the wires from the connectors.
Run weed wacker cord down the bars. Electrical tape the wires to the cord.
Use that to pull the wires through the bars.
It doesn't sound like too bad of a job. Do I need to pull the ignition switch and radio to get to the top clamp on the bars? I know I'll have to remove the outer fairing and exhaust to do the clutch cable but I can do a thread search on the clutch adjustment.
