Spark Plug Wire was broken at the place where the wire joins the connector that plugs onto the spark plug. It came off in my hand. This definitely could cause the "miss" in the engine, as my bike hasn't had a "miss" since I've owned it. Not sure that this is the problem that is causing the "check engine" and throttle problem, but at least it's a start. It would seem to me that an "Arcing" plug wire would drive electronics crazy.
Question..... wonder if I'm gonna have to pull the tank to put the new wire on? Sure hope not... but looks like I will have to. Can't quite get my hand under the tank to unplug it from the coil.
Gonna go get me a replacement cap at AutoZone until my new plug wire comes in. I gotta ride, it can't sit idle. :-)
Thanks a bunch. I was hoping that I could loosen it enough to get my hand up in there to unplug and plug a new one in and then route the wire back to where it belongs. Thanks, Dawg !
Hey Dawg or others, this is what I got when I checked the codes:
here is what I got on the codes:
P= No Rsp
S= NonE then hit the key again and PN 68924-07
SP= NonE then hit the key again and PN 67349-08
t= NonE then hit the key again and PN 67348-04d
b= No Rsp
My pea brain got to thinking. When I did those readings, the kill switch was "off" or "killed", I went back out, cut the kill switch to operate and I got these codes on the ECM:
P0131
P0151
P1353
P1356
P1511
P2135
My pea brain then started thinking.... I put those XIED's on the bike back a year ago. To be honest, I might have seen some difference, but not really sure... it did seem cooler.... but anyway, I went to pull them off and the rear cylinder XIED was disconnected. I went ahead and pulled them out of the system, since I just ordered a set of True Dual Head Pipes, not gonna need them anyway.
I also disconnected the ECM main plug and plugged it back in, but didn't see any wires loose or problems there.
I reset went back into the codes and did the "Clear" function. Guess what, NO CODES, and the problem is GONE !
DAWG or anyone else that knows.
Help.
Not to hijack this thread, but my check engine light on my Ultra Ltd goes on when I turn on the bike, turns off for a few seconds, then goes on again and stays on. I did a diagnostic check and in "P" got the following codes "1510" and "2138"
Anyone know what these mean (aside from the fact that I should probably get the bike in for its first service, which is due anyway)? Biggest question is "can I ride the bike or do I need to have it flatbedded?
Thanks

Mine is in the shop right now for the same codes, I called and checked with the svc dept and they said it was OK to ride to the dealer, Just called me and said the throttle grip sensor was bad and was going to have to be replaced (under warrenty-09 SG) I also had the cruise control not working, said it was all related. You can use the search function and look up p1510 and several threads come up on it.
