I love Mopars and have had one or another continuously for almost 60 years. Ya just gotta take care of the batteries.

My Dear and Beloved Spouse (DABS) had a very nice Blazer. The car however often had a dead battery. Dealer was no help - just said the battery was too small for the car.
Because of this problem, I installed a black box that disconnects the battery when the charge falls to a certain level, thereby preserving some power. It really worked very well. Granted it was a band aid that did not address the CAUSE of those dead batteries, but she wasn't getting stranded any more.
Some later time, one evening, the alternator had quit (voltage regulator). Now we have all nursed a non-charging car home on just the battery but with the black box, things were different. When the battery voltage dropped the disconnect value, the battery did indeed disconnect, and when it did, the lights went out, the transmission shifted to neutral, the engine quit and everything got quiet. She said it was much as you might expect if you drove off the edge of the earth.
She coasted to the side of the road without difficulty and then did what we might all do sort of automatically - that is try to restart the engine. Well when she did, the box did its automatic reset, the engine started and everything worked again. It shut itself down twice more before she got home, but she did make it ok.

She has an FX now.

My brother in law had a Chrysler. It had the battery in the same place yours does. His motor started making some noise and it ended up being a faulty main bearing. He went to source a used junk yard motor and they told him that those motors are very rare now because all the junk yards have sold them all because of this problem. He had a hell of a time getting rid of that car.
