I don't see much on s&s cams on here just woods tw6 and se255. Is anybody running and how are your results? I am looking at the 510g kits cause I can get it today and start the install but leery at the lack of publicity here. and I know everybody has a different OPINION but results are always good to see. Lookin at just real world riding 1 up -2 up trailer pulling curves and highway blastin not just dyno wars(although helpful for tuning and comparison). thanks
I have 510G's and I have been very happy with them...What year bike do you have and engine size...and what other mods do you plan on doing in the future...This will play in the decision process.
2010 FLHTCU. would like to leave it 96 for now but would go 103 if results aren't satisfactory. Has a t-max and an 09 header with stock mufflers and SE a/c. Probably going with a thunderheader or V/H pro or black pro ho 2/1(still on the fence for pipe as to which one) both are good. I would like to get in the 90's for hp and 90-100 for torque. I have seen good numbers on a 96ci with cam/pipe/tuner.
Most guys with that motor seem to be running the 255's and have been very happy with them...I'm not sure how the 510'S would be on your motor as I'm running an 88".
255's seem ok but #1 I want to go gear drive and get rid of the cam chain set up and #2 stay away from moco's epa hindered products and #3 i get a better deal on aftermarket(pricewise). If the 255's are what it is though I would go that way but I think there is better out there. Also I don't have a woods dealer near me but If I need to order them thats ok. Trying to do something before Sturgis rolls around. Going 2 up with a bushtec and this thing stock sucks a little(a lot) wind. I don't need to be the first guy there but last just sucks.
I'd go with something with more lift since you can bolt in up to .560. More lift = more bang for the buck, it's hard to beat Woods, but Andrews & S&S are good also, they both have some around .550 lift. Thinner head gaskets to bump the comp a little & get the squish to where it should be is a good bang for the buck if you're doing the work yourself, it can actually be cheaper since you don't have to use adj pushrods that way.
For two-up touring and especially with a trailer, you'll need a torque cam like the Andrews 21, 26 or SE 255. My brother has an S&S 510 in his '04 Heritage, and likes it but wishes he had a bit more on the bottom end for two-up riding. Guys with pre-'07 TCs pay good money to get the cam drive system that came stock on your '10.
what is the tolerance for the run out? how bad is it(real world dial indicator)? Are these guys(moco) just turning out junk now?
Compared to the "good old days" its junk. But its adequate for the bike as built.
S&S make 06 & up style chain drive versions of all their cams up to 640 so if you do have a runout issue you can stay chain drive.. No fuggin way I would use those bracelet chains to drive my 640s, but people do....
