Soft 02, gotta say, I love your Avitar. Triumph? Norton? Is it yours?
I wish! I do have a 66 Tiger but its still a sprung rear with the banana seat. It currently has a bent rod. My avitar is what I plan on doing. Thanks though. Also plan on doing a right side suicide shift too.
Bike going in next week for its 3rd main shaft bearing (#8967) in 90K miles. All started making noise ~25K, the second one I rode longer on as they were on backorder allocation for several weeks. My ESP runs out on 12/6 so just under the wire. Plan then is to get a 2013 before it happens again.

This is not what I want to hear! Mine started whining at 16k, evolving into a growl at 32k when it was changed. I'm now at 50k with no further problems, yet--but I'm going to be pissed if it happens again. Your first was at 25k, the third at 90k, so when was the second? I want to know when to start planning on my second.
Is the problem always the plastic shoulder that retains the rollers? This was mine and I understand is the issue with most (all?) of these. Yet HD keeps making these bearings, unchanged from '07 to '12.
Every time I have my inner primary off I inspect the MSB but so far so good. Its my impression that after upgrading to the SE comp and easing up on the drive belt adjustment that I have reduced the stress on the MSB. So far im at 97,742 miles total and 40+ k on my last bearing. Now that ive said this it will prob go bad in a week or two. Good luck.

I guess this is another maintenance item, like changing the fluids, to be done every 30k or so. Great. I'm at 50k now, so I guess I need to start saving up.

You learn something new everyday! I got my bike w/16k in early May. Just turned over 24k. Gonna have my local indy tech check the main shaft bearing, etc. He also sent me a few links about clutch baskets disintegrating....
