"Do you work for the MOCO Budz or maybe the EPA, it almost sounds like it. I couldn't tell by your profile since their is nothing in it that tells us where you are from just like lots of others on this forum, so I can't tell if you live in Milwaukee or York. I'm only giving you a bad time because you don't have anything in your profile, must be secret stuff. "

OldfartJC

No, I'm retired old fart; hitch in USMC back in late 60s and 30 years as a firefighter in Florida. No secrets, just another guy who likes to play with power and tools. I grew up in the muscle car era and lived and learned through the same crap with cars. I like performance as much as the next guy but have learned to deal with the realities. There is always a way for gearheads to achieve performance and outsmart tree-hugger types . Hell, beating bureaucrats can't be that hard, can it now?? My first bike was a piece of crap 1975 AMF Superglide. I've experienced the lows of HD, it cost me plenty. I am quite pleased with the improvements over the years. I guess some do not have a point of reference to compare the present product. Personnaly I'm exited about playing with a stronger engine. I know it's choked up to meet the standards, but I think that the MOCO has left it user friendly to correct with a little $$$$. The funny thing is the aftermarket is going to benefit more than HD. So I don't think this situation was HDs choice. I like a couple of the HD forums to glean good performance information from and I guess I get tired of some of the whining sometimes. No harm meant.

By any chance are you making me an offer of work ? I'm lookin around!

Regards

Hmmm.. I have 465 miles on my 07 Street Glide, I cannot beleave what I am reading,
" The 96 is a Dawg " a PIG.... Come on fellas, THIS IS A HARLEY NOI A HONDA!!!

My biggest reason to go to the SG was the Engine and the trans... But when I
sat on the SG, it fit me perfect...

I have done the following upgrades..

SE SLIP ONS.. No SERT, No PC3, No Race Tuner...

It runs perfect..

You have to get used to the new ratio's

But trust me, 93 foot lbs of torque is for real...

I'm a big guy, 260.. 6'1" and If I hammer down at a dead stop, the back tire is commin loose...

I have to be the most critical person for the vtwin, I WAS a HONDA GOLDWING Rider, 4 of them..

For the most part, a harley (bagger) is for the older rider, I'm glad to see the SG attracting the younger croud.. ( or young at heart, like me )

And I know all of you who had just bought a 06 88 5 speed, without any knowlage of the 07 upgrade, is PISSED.. I WAS TOO...

But I took it on the chin and bought the SG... After all, It's Only money...

Peace, ride safe,

Gotta love it..

Uhhhh, no......I'm anything but pissed. I have a bike that all the aftermarket parts fit. The tranny is not noisy, and the engine does not get too hot. Oh yeah, and my dyno numbers were better than any 61 hp....LMAO! 6speed? Who cares? Do I need to be able to ride 100 mph and only spin the engine 3500 rpm's? NO. Not everone likes the '07 models. Face it, get use to it. Most of the people that I know that have '06 models are not beating down anyones door to trade (up?) for an '07. Many, ran to the dealership to get an '06 before they were all gone. I think you have overlooked the big picture.......

If the 96 is pig then the 88 is as well. But what did you expect for 130 something CCs? It's not the size that matters in this case.. look at the improvements to the overall platform.
Case in point... I don't hear the valves...at all! I'd say the MOCO did a fine job so far in improving the 88. Obviously the MOCO did not build the 96 to kill the 88 in performance. To me it sounds like they took a clue from this forum and fixed/improved all the complaints folks had for the old 5 speed and 88. In any case improvements are what they are. An attempt to make something better. And I can tell you. It is better in many ways.

Now if I could just get my 5th gear from whinning....

Thing is, don't slam the new kids on the block. The EVO guys did the same back in the day when the 88 came out. Where are those guys today anyway? (JK EVO dudes, peace)

Ok great, so you have a friend who drag races, Good for you. SO do I. That has ntohing to do with the fact that the 96 is a PIG!!!

Apples to apples, they are both starting at the same HP. piped, PCIII, intyake 88s are seeing 75 HP consistently. What more are you gonna expect from a 96?

Everyone loves to hate the poor 07 in here

Bottom line as an engine builder 96 inches when properly tuned and fed more air HAS to make more power than 88.

Unfortunately, they dont offer the "properly tuned" option when you buy your new 07 [&o]

Another interesting fact is, if you dont increase airflow in and out of the motor, 88, 98, 108, or a 489 inch V-8 inches will make the same power, just at a lower rpm, matter of fact, if port velocity gets too fast with a bigger motor, it can even fail to make the turn at the valve and lose power with more cid.

I think when we start to see some real tunable EFI parts come out, you'll see more power. Unfortunately, right now we sit and wait a bit

No doubt, the 96 has more potential than the 88. Has to. Cubes are cubes. The part I dislike about the whole hoopla over the 2007 models is the hype. Thats all it was is a marketing ploy. Some of the local dealers around my part of the world were quoting 92 ft lbs of torque...STOCK! When people would return and say " I had it dyno'd and it only did 70 ft lbs" they blamed the dyno as being faulty. Give me a break! It was scary to me, that I almost fell for it, being a technical kind of person......bigger is better. But no, in this case, bigger will be better someday when all the aftermarket companies tool up for the changes. I am VERY glad that I stayed with an '06. Not a perfect engine, but you know what you have.....

93 ft lbs @ the crank not the wheel big diffrence the dyno measures the wheel you must read between the lines the dealers are not wrong only saying what sounds better
