ORIGINAL: bountyhunter

This info was taken from a recent article by Donny Petersen...Heavy Duty Cycles...Toronto.

Dyno testing on the new and improved, "stroked", STOCK, '07 TC96 with higher compression & higher flowing heads resulted in a disappointing....*61 HP*, virtually identical to well established figures for the TC88. Upgrade the 96" to the 110" kit and a major teardown to split the lower engine cases, and bore out the cylinder spigots to 4 inches, is required.
I don't know what happened. I installed Rush 2.25" slip-ons, SE A/C, and a PCCIII on my '07 96" Heritage. Dyno'd at.........69.75 HP..................78.70 Torque. Pretty impressive with minimal mods. Runs better than my '05 WG with Cycle Shack slip-ons, SE A/C, SE 211 Cams, and Stage 2 burn.

I have an 06, and I'am anything but pissed.
Motor, trans, are quiet, bike runs strong and cool.
I'am sure the 07 is a good bike, but not good enough
to make me take a beating on a trade up.

There was a pretty good bump in Torque according to the latest American Iron mag. Same inefficient head design was the main thing holding back better performance. Strangulated for EPA reasons I am sure. The 96 would be an easy one to wake up with a little head work and a cam.

Funny !! talk about a faulty dyno !! LOL must be the same one you used to get your adjusted dyno nunbers . P.S. maybe the atmaspheric adjustments were not done to give the number you want to get. Whatever floats your boat .

No doubt, the 96 has more potential than the 88. Has to. Cubes are cubes. The part I dislike about the whole hoopla over the 2007 models is the hype. Thats all it was is a marketing ploy. Some of the local dealers around my part of the world were quoting 92 ft lbs of torque...STOCK! When people would return and say " I had it dyno'd and it only did 70 ft lbs" they blamed the dyno as being faulty. Give me a break! It was scary to me, that I almost fell for it, being a technical kind of person......bigger is better. But no, in this case, bigger will be better someday when all the aftermarket companies tool up for the changes. I am VERY glad that I stayed with an '06. Not a perfect engine, but you know what you have.....

Does anyone remember the talk/dooms day/bashing etc. when the MOCO replaced the flathead with the Knuckle head; and then the Pan; then the Shovel and then the EVO; then the Fathead (Twin cam 88); and then the Revolution. It has happened every time. I’ve heard it since the early 70s. Progress is rarely ever a good thing for everybody it just happens. This time the MOCO has a third party to satisfy and just like the auto industry (1973-1993) given a little time it will all workout, just not to everyone’s satisfaction. It seem to have taken the 96” 07s to make anybody to say anything nice about the 88”s.

It's been a battle for die-hard Harley owners to move up, Shovels, Pans, Evo's, Twin cams, now o7 model 96" the thing is they have improved through the years (with exception of the V-Rod) still can't get there. Harley did meet the EPA requirments with the 96" without it being a complete dog, they did leave the door open for after market upgrades to easily equal the 95"BB kits power output with simple exhaust, AC, PC111, and tune. The one thing the 07's have is with the 6 speed the gears 1 thru 5 pull like you have a 3.37 final and with the 6th gear being in the range of 0.887 you end up in the 3.17 range. This is somewhat ideal, you pull hard through 5th and still able to cruise on the highway at lower RPM with great mileage in 6th.
