Interesting take on some of the folks on this forum. The true "Bikers" will agree with you on how some like to put down the MoCo. Those of us that have been around a few years and have had more than 1 experience on a Harley just smile at the new wannabes on their shinny new first time Harley's. I can remember in amazement that I could actually see what was behind me in my mirrors, or that after 100 miles my hands, feet and legs were not numb. I for one will enjoy my 6 speed on hopefully many long trips of 80 or better. As for me I ride a Harley and will never utter a disparaging word to Mother MoCo, only praise her evolving to a better motorcycle with every new year.[sm=exactly.gif][sm=smiley20.gif]
I went back through the posts and could not find any reference to the 07 "being a piece of crap" (Hogdoc). Lots of comments about a stock 96 not much, if any better than an 88. That is not disrepecting the new scooters. Just comments. The dyno above just goes to show, with either the 88 or 96, stock from the factory, it doesnt take much to make it MUCH better. IMHO, MoCo did not improve the bike to a 96 to maker a better performer for us(because it isn't), just the necessary adjustment to meet EPA requirments and not be a DOG. And, HD91 99 07, what is a true "Biker", anyway??
Someone that loves riding his Harley just for the shear joy of it. Someone that doesn't complain about the short comings of the bike but instead improves on those short comings. Someone that doesn't complain about the improvement that others have done to their bikes. Have said it many times, Harley builds our bikes, we make them ours. Like the Harley T-shirt of a few years ago "If you have to ask, I'm sure you wouldn't understand".
A very proud owner of a 2007 Harley Davidson, FLHX" and any and all short comings.

I agree that there is too much nitpicking on the 07's. BUT, Harley Davidson has evolved into a great big ol money makin machine now and if the customer doesn't call them on some of the obvious design flaws and shortcuts, they will keep cutting corners until we will have another Chrysler or AMF situation. Harleys have never been described as defined or high tech machines but that is changing. I don't like the change but it is happening. I'm not complaining but if I had payed 10K for the bike, I could overlook a lot of stuff as long as it wasn't saftey issues. The problem is I paid almost 23K for my ultra (more than I've ever paid for a car) and I expect it to be damn near perfect. Definiton of "damn near perfect Harley"= starts every time on at most the 3rd try, idles rough as hell which makes the wife smile, pulls like a tractor up to about 4k and then falls on it's face. You see where I'm going here. I don't expect it to be BMW smooth as silk nor do I want it to be. I just don't want to worry about tranny dipsticks breaking off or pipes searing my legs because of EPA BS.
One more thing and I'll shut up. I liked Harley when you dreamed up what you wanted, got on a list, waited, waited, got you baby and it was an original. I bought my 07 Ultra Classic right off the showroom (Pacific Blue Pearl) and whithin 3 days a clone of it was spotted in my town of 3500 people. I don't think the price is justifiable anymore. They are mass produced just like Honda's now and I'm afraid of loosing the "Harley" portion of my bike (however you describe that). OK ONE MORE THING. GOD I LOVE MY HOG (Don't call it a PIG or we WILL go to the ground)
