I'm looking into a head, cam and piston kit upgrade on my 2011 103" that will produce in the 110/117 range and the price is to far off the 120R (factoring in trade/sell) of my motor.
How do you think this motor would perform on a 2000 mile trip?

I think I know the answer to the Saturday night rides with the guys. . .

I'm expecting it to do great on long trips based on what I've seen so far. It runs cooler than my stock 96", note I do have SE premium oil cooler installed. The gas milage on my initial 500 mile break-in was 40mpg; hoping that will improve with age as a new bike does. General riding performance of course has improved tremendously with all the usable power on tap.

If it were going into an 06 bagger, true it would not fit. I am putting it into an 06 dyna, it will fit there. My old avatar pic was mis-leading as it showed a bagger (and it would fit there too since that bike is a 2010), my new pic shows both bikes.

From the 2011 SE Pro Catalog:
19220-11 Black & Chrome. Fits ’06-later DynaŽ and ’07-later Touring models.

I believe gates makes the drive belts, they are also used on industrial machines in the mining industry and are very tough....now getting debris in between the belt and sprocket will trash any belt on any size motor, but as to torque, the belt should handle it...JMO

I'm curious what your riding style is to warrant such a powerful motor. Don't get me wrong, I think this motor in a bagger makes a perfect pair, I'm just not sure I would get the most out of what it has to offer. Please, convince me. . .,

Thanks!

I am fortunate enough to have two bikes. One a moderately built bagger (2010 Street Glide stage II 103) and the other a 2006 Street Bob which was purchased with the intent of turning it into a hot rod. The 06 is where I will install the SE 120R, with the current 95 inch stage one engine going into a stand on the shelf for standby duty.

While I do like the comfort and power of the bagger for the road, I LOVE the nimble ride of the dyna. It is a blast to ride especially on some of the mountain roads out here in the Northwest.

As to power, horsepower is the one addiction that has followed me through life. I enjoy riding / driving high performance rides. If you are satisfied with your ride, enjoy it. No sense me trying to convince you my passion should be yours.

I'm guessing ... MAYBE! It'll only become the next CVO engine if the MoCo can suck enough life out of this motor to pass the ever increasing emission standards. My guess is that the 120R motor will have to be detuned down to about 90hp with that volume of combustion to pass the future EPA standards. There's simply no way to pass future emission standards with a 120+hp V-Twin air-cooled motor from the factory until it's water cooled with variable valve timing and far more exotic fuel management than HD has in their bike's today.

Default 120R Roadglide install

I just finished installing one in my 2010 Roadglide and Saturday took it out. Member Strokerjlk helped me with software and tunning he was a big help on this. Mine was the crate 120R so i could keep the whole 96. The stock map in the software is very lean so all i did was fire the bike up with it. Once i got a map in it that was richened up it runs great. The 800+pound bagger does not feel like 800 lbs anymore. That engine kicks *** i am happy as hell. Not bad at all at low speeds in town but the motor just wants to rip something apart when you twist the grip. SE has the rev limiter set to 6600 in the software . If you do the install yourself you will need to modify a couple 1/4 inch allen wrench's for the throttle body to install and torque the mounting screws and i welded a 1/2 socket to a crows foot to torque the transmission to engine mounting bolts as all i had was an open end crows foot in that size and wanted a better fit than an open end would give. The primary locking tool does not work when putting the SE clutch on you have to put the bike in high gear and stand on the brake to torque the mainshaft nut. When you torque the compensator you hold the crankshaft with a 1 3/4 inch open end wrench to torque the compensator bolt.
