I had my Street Glide at the dealer a few weeks back for its 1,000 mile service, and the dipsticks did a half-*** wash and dry (even though I asked them not to) and left water spots all over it. When I got it home I detailed it to my standards but could not get the damn spots off the aluminum wheels no matter what I tried. I thought I'd wait until winter and try the Dremel buffing wheel on it. I don't know what they used, but it even strained the wheels in certain areas. So I'm reading Hemmings Muscle Machines last week and they reviewed this Meguiars product, Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish. The review was good so I stopped by Auto Zone and picked up a tin. Let me tell you, this stuff is awesome and works as promised. Just rubbed a small dab it on the polished part of the rim and buffed it out, and the spots and stains were gone. Even detailed the sprocket. Be warned though, it's for non-clearcoated rims.
I wish I had known about this a year ago. Similar situation, dealership washed my bike after the 1k service, and they must have used something like Simple Green to clean it, but they failed to wash it off the wheels and clutch and brake levers. The stains were unbelievable. I spent an honest 6 hours with hte Magic Bullet and another similar polisher trying to get the stains off. Got most of them off, but it was really difficult. It would have been easier to take the damn wheels off than work around the discs and the belt drive. I'll keep this stuff in mind, maybe even pick some up just to have in the garage.
I have a silver engine on my 06 EG standard. It is painted silver with polished aluminum, not chrome. I use the same product on the engine parts, and man they sure look like chrome! Good stuff!
