Default Help with route to Sturgis

Leaving tomorrow morning and in the past have gone 80 - 90 and into Rapid.

Was wondering if any east coasters have taken 80 - 29 -90 through the Souix Falls area? I was just thinking about trying a different route and avoiding Chicago all together as it always seems to slow there. Not sure how traffic and construction are on 80 west of IL.

Thanks.

I took 29 out of Omaha up to Sioux Falls and then west. Decent road with some tar snakes here and there. My son, who lives in Omaha, advised against "cutting the corner" and heading northwest off 29 and avoiding Sioux Fall due to small towns and poor roads. Good luck.

From where your at there just isn't a good way to avoid Chicago-best bet would be taking 80 to 355 or 294-NOT during rush hour. Either way you should get through in an hour (unless it's rush hour).

Have you thought about taking a ferry across Lake Michigan? I don't think it will be any quicker but it avoids Chicago.

Not much for choices of getting around the traffic in Gary / Chicago area, the good news is the construction on I80-90 is pretty well done!

There is or was some bridge work on I80 over the Mississippi by the Quad Cities (IA-IL) and also there is some road work on both I29 Iowa & I90 SD which goes to 2 lane traffic.

I haven't been on I90/94 in Wisconsin, but I'll bet it would be some descent scenery.

355 is a pertty painless. It's a pretty new road so constuction ought to be low-lots of tolls. Dunno about 294 south of 290-but there's alway airport traffic where 90/294 cross-tolls too.

We're two hours east of Pittsburgh. My friends (not me this time) are leaving at 2:00 am tomorrow morning. One of the guys drives truck to Des Moines and he's set the timing up to get through Chicago when the traffic isn't so busy. I'm not sure what time of day that is though. Our trip in 2007 took us on Rts. 70, 80, 29 and 90.

Have a safe trip !
