They are right, inner primary needs to come off.

I have seen on this forum a tranny shifter linkage that is 2 piece. (That is how it
is securred to the tranny shaft) So if you could cut the old shifter off with a Dremel
tool???? Someone need to look into this before I need to replace my shifter linkage.

Most likely not. The splines on the arm probably opened up once it came loose.
There's no way to get the arm off, even if there were a 2-piece replacement, without removing the inner primary.

i had a buddy that put a regular bolt in his instead of the allen head. was able to torque it down a little more. worked fine without having to replace it.

mine got loose on a previous bike. i was real busy and didnt have time for it to be down but didnt want it to come off either. got a universal throttle spring for a car and hooked it somewhere(dont recall) to keep the pressure on it. rode it like that for a couple of years until i needed to replace the belt and was there anyway. worked great and didnt looked rigged up either.

If it makes you feel better, not only is my shift shaft loose but the seal is shot too!

No other fix but to remove primary....

I like the spring idea and the idea of a new two piece, but I'd like to see someone shove a dremel tool between the tranny and the primary case!
