I haven't any problems with stripping the torx screws. You don't have to torque down any of the torx screws too much based on the torque values in the service manual. In fact, most of the torque values (if I remember correctly) are in in/lbs vice ft/lbs. The T-27 bit by itself is hard to find though. I tried Sears, Home Depot, and Lowes and I couldn't buy the T-27 bit by itself at any of those stores. I already had a set that had everything but the T-27. Why didn't Harley use the T-30 or T-25? It seems like those sizes are much more common.
No problems here with Torx as long as the right size is used. All of the torx fasteners have a lower torque setting then the allen heads. I agree that the allen heads are superior.
Got my Torx set at McMaster Carr and it included T27.
I've never understood why Harley insists on using the torx screws. You need to be much more careful with them than with allens or they will indeed strip out. Swap them out for allens.

Torx screws are generally used for automated assembly.
Most problems acure with the larger size when loctite is used or if there is corrosion.
Buy a quality set of Torx sockets such as Snap-On,Matco,Mac or Craftsman.
People say Torx socket bits. I have Torx screwdrivers. Is there any advantage
to the sockets versus the screwdriver type? I'd imagine if they were on really
tight the sockets would probably work better.
However, due to need, I picked mine up at PepBoys. Cheap in price, so I was going to replace it but the quality of it is comparable to anyone elses.
Both screwdrive and sockets have their place and are equally useful, but you may want to get a set of sockets as these bolts can get pretty tight when using Locktite, and conversely, youo may need to tighten something down tighter than a screwdrive style would allow.

Most of the problems I've had with stubborn Torx heads stripping was due to not being able to keep the wrench square on the head. Socket w/rachet is easier to square up on the bolt head under pressure than my folding key set. Sockets also work with a torque wrench so you can tighten the bolt to specs on re-assembly.
