Default Torx screws

I'm about to change the fluids in my RK and I read a lot of threads in the archives
on how easy it is to strip the torx screws. Is this true? Any tips on how to avoid
this? Some people recommend switching to SS allen heads.

Thanks,
Pete

Make sure you use the proper size Torx and you should not encounter any problems

I don't have my manual with me. Do all three holes use the # 27 torx?

My 97 EG has the standard Torx as well as a few of the Torx Plus fasteners. The Plus fasteners will strip out if you crank to hard on them with a sandard socket. They are just a little different but enough to cause problems.

Torx fasteners work fine when a correct size, clean bit is used. Do not use excess force when tightening the smaller sizes, 20/25/27. The only torx required for a full fluid change is a 27 for the derby. You can avoid that by replacing the inspection plate for a Corbin EZ fill cover...$99.

The engine oil drain plug is a 5/8 hex ( at least it is on my 2000 EG). The tranny has socket head hex I think, but don't remeber what size. I think the tranny fill is 5/16.

I've never understood why Harley insists on using the torx screws. You need to be much more careful with them than with allens or they will indeed strip out. Swap them out for allens.
