The new Twin Cam 96 engine, paired with the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission, delivers up to 17 percent more torque (varies by model family) than the Twin Cam 88 it replaces and incorporates a number of design changes to enhance performance and reliability. It will only be offered with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI). The 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission features quieter helical-cut gears in ratios optimized to match the torque curve of the Twin Cam 96. A sixth gear reduces engine rpm by 11 percent at highway speeds. New mufflers have been tuned to enhance the lower sound frequencies for a more commanding exhaust tone.
I still say that HD needs to give the few of us what they offered.
What's funny to me is all this talk about "lugging" the engine. IT'S A 96 CUBIC INCH ENGINE IN A MOTORCYCLE! You should be able to cruise at 1500rpm without "lugging" it! And the talk of 5th gear whining being "normal". Gee, I didn't realize they had started engineering in whining noises. My 14 year old 5 speed with 120K on it doesn't make any whining noises now or ever. Maybe HD ought to just replace their own 6 speeds with Bakers. Don't hear of any problem with them.
When you advertise this tranny to sound like next best thing since sliced bread and have the buying public find out this is completely untrue, esp after all the so-called testing. Then I think the factory should make this right.I can live with the sound but would rather not. Some guys got many more miles than I have yet and the noise is still there. Some of these make little noise while others really howl.Mine sounds like the Jetson mobile if you crank up the rpms in 5th.
What HD builds and can't fix the after market usually steps in and corrects for them. I still believe it is the primary chain tensioner causing the problem. I am going to call HAYDEN tomorrow and see if they are working on a chain tensioner for the '07's yet. They should have a start since the Dyna's had this tensioner last year. I believe the same tensioner can't handle the increase in the torque of the '07's. HD has already said the tensioner is bottoming out on start-up making a clunk when it starts where it didn't on the '06 Dynas.
eddybo,,, hey bro,,, that wasnt my intentions,,,, sorry if I offended ya,,, if i didnt feel I had a prob I'd be ridin... in the mean time I'm like you, checkin out whats up with everyone else,,,,, and decided to add a little humor,,,,,alls well

...is this the noise that doesn't show up until after the bike has fully warmed up (15-20 minutes or so)?
